Meet the DA
Mike Kagay took office as District Attorney for Kansas’s Third Judicial District in 2017, becoming the youngest person ever elected to that role in Shawnee County history. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Washburn University in 2005 and his Juris Doctor from the Washburn University School of Law.
After law school, Mike joined the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, where he prosecuted the full range of criminal cases. As District Attorney, he has focused his administration on prosecuting violent crimes, sex offenses, and crimes against children.
Mike serves as President-Elect of the Kansas County and District Attorneys Association and on several state boards and committees focused on law enforcement, specialty courts, and fighting substance abuse. He also teaches Prosecutorial Ethics at Washburn University School of Law.
Mike and his wife, Hannah, are raising their children in Shawnee County, which they are proud to call home.
